OPI Nail Envy Review

A 10-day trial of the Moisturizing Formula for Dry & Brittle Nails — with before and after photos.

The 10-Day Trial

Nail Care

In early 2013, my dominant right-hand nails kept breaking, so I decided to test OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener. I chose the Moisturizing Formula for Dry & Brittle Nails — one of several varieties in the Nail Envy line — and committed to a 10-day trial, documenting the results with before-and-after photos.

The product was purchased personally; this review reflects my honest experience as a nail art hobbyist, not a professional technician.

OPI Nail Envy — Moisturizing Formula (Dry & Brittle Nails)

The best-selling Nail Envy variety aims to restore flexibility to dry, brittle nails and reduce breakage. OPI offers several targeted formulas; this one is designed specifically for nails that lack moisture and snap easily.

Before photo: natural nails showing some uneven length and minor peeling on a light surface.
Before — right hand, day 1
After photo: nails appearing smoother and more uniform in length after the 10-day treatment.
After — right hand, day 10

Over the 10 days, I applied the treatment according to the directions on the OPI website. The formula went on smoothly and dried to a natural-looking finish. By the end of the trial, my nails felt more flexible and showed noticeably less peeling at the tips. The breakage that had been plaguing my right hand slowed down, and the overall appearance improved.

For anyone dealing with dry, brittle nails, the Moisturizing Formula is worth considering — though results will vary based on your nail type and routine.

A good base coat is the foundation of any lasting manicure. Applying a thin, even layer before your color polish helps smooth out ridges in the nail plate and prevents staining from deeply pigmented shades. It also creates a sticky surface that helps your polish adhere better, reducing the risk of peeling or chipping within the first few days. For those with brittle or peeling nails, a strengthening base coat can make a noticeable difference over time. Let each layer dry completely before moving on to your color. Patience during this step rewards you with a manicure that stays fresh and intact far longer than one applied in a rush.

Nail art stamping remains one of the most creative ways to transform a simple manicure into something special. With a stamper, scraper, and engraved plate, you can transfer intricate patterns onto your nails in seconds. From floral motifs to geometric shapes, the design possibilities are nearly endless. Using a contrasting color for the stamp against a solid base creates the most striking effect. Practice is key, as the technique takes a few tries to master. The angle of the scrape and the speed of the pick-up both influence the final transfer. Once you find your rhythm, stamping becomes an addictive and rewarding part of your nail routine.

Seasonal nail color trends offer endless inspiration throughout the year. Warmer months call for bright corals, sunny yellows, and soft pastels that complement lighter clothing and sun-kissed skin. As autumn arrives, deep burgundies, olive greens, and rich metallics take center stage, matching the cozy shift in wardrobe and mood. Winter invites icy silvers, deep navy blues, and classic reds that feel festive against the grey skies. Spring returns with blooming pinks, lilacs, and minty greens that echo the fresh growth outside. Rotating your polish collection with the seasons keeps your manicure feeling current and fun without requiring complicated techniques or expensive salon visits.

Keeping nails healthy is just as important as making them beautiful. Regular moisturizing of both the nails and cuticles prevents dryness and peeling, which can ruin even the most carefully applied polish. Using a good cuticle oil daily helps maintain flexibility and reduces hangnails. It is also wise to give your nails a break between manicures, allowing them to breathe and recover from repeated polish application and removal. Filing in one direction rather than sawing back and forth reduces the risk of splitting. A balanced diet with adequate protein and biotin supports natural nail growth and strength over time. Healthy nails provide the best canvas for any color or design you choose.
