Nail Art Ideas Linkup (NAIL)
A monthly nail art inspiration challenge hosted by Jacqui and fellow bloggers — four themes, endless creativity.
About NAIL
Since 2013The Nail Art Ideas Linkup — or NAIL for short — is a monthly nail art challenge co-hosted by Jacqui of Craftynail alongside Eeeek! Nail Polish!, Brijits Digits, and Nail That Accent. Unlike a traditional competition, NAIL is designed as a relaxed way for nail art enthusiasts to share ideas, try new techniques, and connect with the community.
Each month, the hosts announce four creative themes. Participants interpret those themes however they like — there are no strict rules, just inspiration. At the end of the month, the community votes for the NAIL Genius Of The Week, celebrating standout designs.
Nail art challenges like the monthly NAIL linkup offer a wonderful way to break out of creative ruts and try techniques you might not otherwise attempt. Whether you lean toward delicate floral stamping, bold geometric decals, or textured glitter gradients, having a themed prompt gives direction while still leaving plenty of room for personal expression. Many participants find that working within constraints actually sparks more originality than free-form painting. The communal aspect is equally rewarding: seeing how different artists interpret the same theme with different color palettes, base coats, and topcoat finishes can teach you new tricks. It is a supportive, low-pressure environment where sharing a swatch photo or a step-by-step tutorial becomes part of a larger conversation about the love of nail art.
Building a versatile nail polish collection is key to tackling any design idea that comes to mind. A well-rounded stash might include a few neutral cremes for everyday wear, some shimmery metallics for special occasions, and a handful of bold statement shades like wine reds or army greens. Glitter topcoats and fast-dry base coats are practical staples that help extend manicure life and reduce chipping. Many enthusiasts also swear by stamping plates and decals for achieving intricate patterns without freehand steadiness. Organizing your polishes by color or finish makes it easier to spot what you need when inspiration strikes, turning your stash into a true creative toolkit rather than a jumbled collection of bottles.
The social side of nail blogging has grown into a vibrant community where enthusiasts share everything from quick swatch photos to detailed tutorials. Platforms like Instagram and Twitter have become go-to spaces for posting fresh manicures, tagging challenge hosts, and discovering new indie polish brands. Many bloggers also maintain email newsletters or FAQ pages to answer common questions about nail care, stamping techniques, and product recommendations. This exchange of tips and support helps everyone improve, whether you are a beginner learning how to apply your first set of decals or a seasoned artist experimenting with abstract paint designs. The shared love of color and creativity transforms what could be a solitary hobby into a connected, inspiring experience.
How It Works
4 ThemesEvery month brings a fresh set of four prompts. Past themes have included sea-inspired designs, sand textures, and pop-culture motifs. Participants paint their nails to match one or more themes, then share photos using the linkup. It's free, open to all skill levels, and a great way to discover new bloggers and techniques.
